Apart from the standard crimes being committed and propaganda being spouted by both sides during this latest escalation between the Israeli military and Hamas and other militant groups in the Gaza Strip one gem stands out from the stinking pile of rhetorical manure, and it comes from our own Foreign Secretary!
“Hamas bears principal responsibility for the current crisis,” said Mr Hague. “Hamas and other armed groups in Gaza should cease attacks against Israel immediately.”
I don’t think old William quite understands how these things works. The assassination of Ahmed Jabari, the chief of the military wing of Hamas the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades (who are guilty of targeting and killing civilians ), in the midst of negotiations over a long term truce between Hamas and Israel by the Israeli Air Force (IAF) suggests to me that it was the Israeli political and military elite who bear the primary responsibility for this latest violent escalation for which it will be Israeli but mostly Palestinian civilians who will pay the ultimate price.
